Responsibilities
The Legal Knowledge Engineer will be involved right across the “Discover”, “Define”, “Design/Develop”, and “Deliver” phases of Freeths’ innovation methodology, as set out below.
- “Discover”
- Support the Director and Innovation Manager in discovering compelling new applications of available KM LegalTech, with a particular focus on user onboarding/ training, discovery sessions, workshops, and other “awareness-raising” efforts
- This “Discover” remit focusses primarily on those KM LegalTech products for you will – with appropriate training where required – act as Product Manager (including document automation and certain Sharepoint Pages, plus new AI technologies under consideration)
- “Define”
- Support the Director and Innovation Manager in capturing detailed problem statements and other essential collateral in relation to identified strategic areas of priority
- Support the Innovation Manager in preparing thorough, robust Business Cases and project plans in support of new LegalTech evaluation processes
- “Design”/“Develop”
- Working in collaboration with IT BAs, prepare thorough, precise, actionable user requirements for new solutions will support Freeths Agreed Best Practice for new or improved legal processes
- Where an aspect of FABP capitalises on a technology for which you are Product Manager, you will also act as Lead Engineer, building the collateral or solutions that will support FABP, working in collaboration with the lawyers and Knowledge Lawyers as appropriate
- “Deliver”
- With oversight and support from the Innovation Manager, you are Responsible for tracking and driving adoption of FABP processes that leverage the tools and processes for which you have played a Design/Development role
The above is an illustrative rather than exhaustive list or responsibilities. The overriding objective for this role is to become an expert user and Product Manager for the firm’s KM LegalTech, and to build out knowledge content and solutions leveraging the same. The candidate will therefore need to perform such other functions as may be assigned by immediate supervisor from time to time.
This role will develop in line with the successful candidate’s strengths. The successful candidate will therefore need to operate with sharp focus on their directed remit, whilst also being comfortable with their remit and responsibilities evolving in line with their developing experience and credibility, and as the innovation function’s changing needs require.
Requirements
Essential
2+ years of relevant, practical experience in LegalTech and legal innovation
Practical experience with document automation and/or workflow design
Practical experience in strong, detailed documentation of user requirements
Collaborative, resilient/adaptable attitude, and a completionist mindset
Strong written skills and high attention to detail
Desirable
Familiarity with Design Thinking principles and process improvement techniques
BA Foundation/Practitioner certification desirable but not essential (training may be available to the successful candidate, if required and subject to business case)
