Our team
Real estate is at the heart of Eversheds Sutherland’s business and forms approximately a quarter of our firm’s work. We have one of the largest full service real estate teams of any global law practice and consistently ranked in directories worldwide. We apply real estate services to our clients’ needs across the firm’s sectors including Consumer, Financial Services, Education, Energy, Industrials, TMT, Health and Life Sciences and Real Estate.
The business established a dedicated Real Estate Legal Technology & LPM team in 2019, which has grown substantially year-on-year as demand for alternative and innovative delivery models increases.
Role and key responsibilities
We are looking for a legal project manager to aid in driving forward our LPM offering for REPG (Real Estate Practice Group), as demand increases. The successful candidate will report in to the Senior Legal Project Manager, working in collaboration with the wider team, Head of Legal Technology, and our lawyers to deliver LPM services on our largest projects.
They will be required to manage complex, multi-disciplinary real estate transactions, working with the lawyers to deliver work on time, to budget, and meeting the project requirements. In addition, the LPM will assist in the specification and implementation of LPM across the firm, to train REPG lawyers in LPM principles, methodology, values and technology and encourage a culture of efficiency, profitability and client service. They will collaborate with the wider network of legal project managers across Eversheds Sutherland, but be directly responsible for LPM delivery in REPG. They will be working closely with lawyers, clients, client relationship partners and central Eversheds Sutherland teams.
Some travel between Eversheds Sutherland offices may be required. The successful candidate will have a high level of autonomy and responsibility to deliver work that supports REPG, Eversheds Sutherland and client goals.
Matter Delivery:
- Working alongside our lawyers, provide project management support on large and complex real estate projects
- Developing matter plans, budgets, workflows, timelines, defining scope, assumptions and prices
- Proactively managing changes in scope, identifying risks and developing contingencies
- Working with the Finance team to produce financial progress reports; analysing work in progress across multiple work streams; identifying out of scope actions; preparing revised scopes as necessary
- Preparing detailed and accurate fee reports
- Driving forward specific client initiatives and develop relationships with clients who understand the value LPM brings to their company
LPM Proposition Development:
- Build out the project management tools, methodologies, resources and technologies
- Supporting lawyers in the use of our LPM tools and technologies
- Identifying and supporting process, policy and procedure improvements across the legal project management function and more broadly across legal service delivery
- Developing and delivering project management training for lawyers
- Helping to develop a culture supportive and conducive to legal project management
- Developing and presenting communications to support the growth of the LPM function internally and through pitches and client proposals and communications
Wider responsibilities:
- Remaining up to date with market trends and horizon spotting and identifying opportunities for legal project management support as part of a trusted adviser relationship
- Staying abreast of developments, change and improvements in legal project management
- Helping to increase efficiencies across REPG and driving improved profitability
- Building and developing client relationships
- Line management experience would be valuable
Skills and experience
We are looking for:
- Ideally an experienced legal project manager or a qualified real estate lawyer and/or real estate professional looking to move in to Legal Project Management
- Preferably experience working in professional services
- Prince 2 or other project management certification would be beneficial but not essential
- Real Estate transaction experience
- Understanding of law firm processes and lawyer-client relationships
- Excellent communication skills, operating at a senior level
- Must be a team player, with a demonstrable commitment to the success of REPG as a business
- Ability to work with core technology and legal technology: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SAP, iManage, HighQ Collaborate, DocuSign, and collaboration platforms would all be beneficial
- Good analytical skills; the ability to produce engaging, concise and timely management information
- Must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of all stages of the legal project lifecycle and apply project management principles
- Excellent time management skills are essential and the successful candidate must be able to deliver to agreed timetables whilst managing multiple projects concurrently
- Excellent numeracy and literacy are essential
